It’s official: we have changed our pricing structure. Now, all accounts are FREE. That’s right - zip, nada, zero.

We toyed around with various pricing models during our beta testing, but ultimately, the only thing that made sense to us was to make sure as many people could enjoy the benefits of buying and selling on Homeschool Apple as possible. And the best way to encourage that, was to not charge a thing.

Are we crazy? Perhaps. But this site is a labor of love, and we are stepping back to the 60’s (free love is groovy and all that jazz). Now, we need you! Please help us out by uploading all of your unwanted and gently-loved homeschool curriculum here.

In addition to selling homeschool items, we also love to shop! The more you upload, the more we, and other like us, can buy

We hope you like our commitment to making buying and selling homeschool items as cheap and painless as humanly possible. If you have any questions or comments about Homeschool Apple, us, or just homeschooling in general, we’d love to hear them!

Peace out, dudes and dudettes.

Earlier tonight, I received an email from Patti in Charlotte. It said:

Hi,

I recently registered for homeschoolapple and wanted to sell some books I no longer need. However, there is an error when I try to open the “Sell” webpage.

Thank you,
Patti

This is simply outstanding. Why would I be excited about a problem being reported? To me it means that you, our wonderful homeschooling community, are helping us to make our application better for everyone. Bravo, Patti!

The issue was caused by some code that tries to make Internet Explorer 6.0 show transparent images like every other browser in the world. Unfortunately, this code also conflicted with something else, and IE didn’t like it.

I am happy to report that the problem has been resolved. And for the most part, the few remaining IE 6 users will be unscathed. Their experience will not be quite the same as those with any of the other standards-based browsers, but it is not far off.

The point of this blog post is not to toot our own horn for resolving the issue, but to let you, our new friends, know that we welcome your comments, issues, and criticisms. Please continue to help us make HSA everything it can be!

Chris

PS: If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and would like a recommendation on a free browser upgrade, go here.

FIRST PRESS RELEASE - SHHH! NOT OFFICIALLY SENT OUT YET

Homeschool Apple debuts as the internet’s newest way to buy and sell homeschool products. Launched this week into beta-testing, homeschoolapple.com offers buyers and sellers protected transactions with an unprecedented buyer’s money-back guarantee. While there are many more unique features on this homeschool-family-run site that are still in the works, the main attraction at this release is the storefront with simple, user-friendly interface, searchable index, high-quality image capability, seller feedback, and protected transaction model.

“This transaction model allows buyers shopping for previously-owned homeschool products to come into our store with complete confidence that they will get what they pay for from the seller,” says developer and homeschool dad Chris Beck. “There is nothing out there that currently offers that. We have also made it so the sellers get maximum bang for their buck. ”

“We know first-hand how much of a personal investment is made in buying quality educational products when you homeschool,” says Carrie Beck, homeschool mom of three, “and we wanted to provide sellers with an option that allows them to recoup as much of that cost as possible. We are excited to be able to offer this to the homeschool community, and we really are focused on making it the best it can be as our way of giving back. In fact, we really want giving back to be the unifying theme on HSA- hence the analogy, ‘apple’ for the homeschool teacher.”

Homeschool Apple gives a peek at some additional features they will be debuting in the coming weeks. Coming very soon is wishlist functionality that will allow buyers to submit products they are seeking into the system and be notified when someone adds them. Sellers will also be able to offer uploadable products for sale in the storefront as well as products they merchandise in their home-based or small business. In addition, our crack team of code ninjas have in development a protected interactive social network with forums, reviews, group blog, student accomplishment page, student themed-contests, give-aways and a unique ‘twitter-like’ feature to allow users another level of social connectivity.

If you are a member of the press, and would like to talk to us regarding Homeschool Apple, please contact:
